Neuschwanstein Castle

From a particular vantage point. I took a cable car up the Bavarian Alps where i figured i would walk 20 minutes to find the best view for my shot.

As i left the chair lift i realized i had not put on my walking shoes, i had slipped on my dress shoes. 20 euro to get to the top and several k out of town i figured i would just walk it.

3.5 hours later i had not got the view that i wanted and had somehow ended up on the other side of the castle.

So i walk to the bottom despite all the other hikers sniggering about my shoes as we passed. I was wasted.

Then i was struck with a brilliant idea. I knew roughly where i wanted to be. So why not go from the bottom and just start climbing up the side of the Alps until i hit a path near where i wanted to be.

Only a river stood in my way and shallow enough that i could walk through it. So off came my shoes and i walked through ice cold water to the other side.

No track and no solid ground as it turned out but i decided to head up anyway. About an hour and a half later i'm thinking that the only way to go is up as there is not way i could go back down. I had been pulling myself up using the trees.

Then i hit a solid cliff face and suddenly had a rethink of my not being able to go back down philosophy.

With unstable footing and gravity working the other way it was quite an experience. Not something i would recommend. In fact the whole idea was probably the dumbest decision i have ever made.

I never got the shot that i wanted and i'm feeling like jelly several days later. Probably a light punishment.

Without doubt though Fuessen and the Bavarian Alps would be one of the prettiest spots on earth. Definitely worth checking out.
